MEMBER SPOTLIGHT -
Dick Dovidas
Dick Dovidas came to Shelbyville from Vincennes
nearly 40 years ago and has been an independent
pharmacist for most of his career. You may have seen him
at the former Apothecary which later became Clinic
Pharmacy, Hook’s Drug Store, and CVS. Dovidas is now the
pharmacist at Blue River Pharmacy, 736 S. Harrison St.,
Shelbyville, a position he started in March.
In the fall of 2007, he was presented the Joseph M.
McSoley Pharmacist of the Year award during the Indiana
Pharmacists Alliance’s Annual Convention. Dovidas was
honored in 2008 with the local Chamber of Commerce’s
Golden Pineapple Award for outstanding customer service.
As he prepares for each work day, he reminds himself
to try that day to make a difference in one person’s
life, and to treat everybody the way he would want to be
treated. Dovidas offers these words of wisdom to
everyone: “Pick a job that you really like, and you’ll
never have to work a day in your life.”
“Work” will be fun and for Dovidas, knowing that he
helps people along the way makes “work” twice as much
fun.
Dick Dovidas is one of the many charter members of
The Horizon Center, The Center of Senior Life.

Donate Unused, Workable Cell Phones
A coalition of Law
Enforcement Agencies and Non-Profits across the United
States, recently came together to collect and
redistribute used cell phones to any community member
who needs a 911 phone in the event of an emergency.
Secure the Call Foundation, a non-profit organization,
leads this coalition.
Shelby
Senior Services, Inc. is a collection site for these
phones. Just bring them by the agency office, 1504 S.
Harrison St., and when several have been collected, the
agency will send the phones to Secure the Call
Foundation.
Once
received, the foundation members take the phones,
inspect them, cleans then, charges their batteries and
then reprograms them to be used as free 911 emergency
phones. According to T. Michael Morgan, executive
director of the foundation, any phone that can be turned
on can access 911 services even without a carrier
service plan. The phones are then distributed to
domestic violence shelters, senior centers, neighborhood
watch groups, school crossing guards and other agencies
with an immediate need for 911 access. This service is
available to individuals and organizations nationwide.
For more
information on the program or to download a tax receipt
for your donation, please visit the
website at www.donatemycellphone.org or call
1-888-883-6628.
Please
send only cell phones and batteries; no chargers.
