Volunteer Opportunities

We Need Volunteers

So much of the assistance Shelby Senior Services provides to the older generation in Shelby County could not be accomplished without the help of volunteers. The agency staff truly appreciates the dedication of its volunteers, however, at this time, additional volunteers are needed to help satisfy the increased volume of services being sought by residents who are 55 years of age and older.

Simply put, the Shelby County Volunteer Alliance is a platform for those interested in volunteering in our community to be matched with organizations that are in need of volunteers.

We want long lasting collaborations to develop, and because of that, we focus on safe placement of volunteers. Participating organizations are reputable. Background checks are required for every volunteer.Do you have some time to help others? Volunteers are needed as:

Friendly Visitor Program

As we enter a new year, perhaps some time could be set aside to devote to visiting a Senior in Shelby County. A friendly visit or a phone visit could make their day!
Visits may be made to senior citizens living in homes or Assisted Living Facilities. Maybe you’d rather visit in a group setting? Then, come along when group visits are planned. Look for those dates on the calendar, page 6. Volunteers could offer card playing, special music or even manicures for seniors wanting their fingernails painted.
Get started today! Call Liz at 398-0127 or loeffinger@shelbyseniorservices.org.

Out-Of-County Transportation

Along with aging comes various medical problems, which sometimes means special medical appointment. Shelby Senior Services provides transportation to clients for various medical appointments in Indianapolis, Columbus, Franklin, Greenwood and other surrounding counties. If you would like to be a part of this needed program call Liz at 317-398-0127 weekdays between 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. or e-mail her at loeffinger@shelbyseniorservices.org.
