About Our Center

Scan Your Card

Please scan your card every time you visit our Shelbyville Horizon Center. Scanning your card helps us help you. Also, make sure you check Drop-In. This helps us identify programs of interest to members. This information also provides important details for new grant proposals, identifies participation in programs eligible for grant funding and helps staff members in case of an emergency.

Activity Sign Up

Make sure to sign up for your favorite programs at our front desk or by calling 317.398.0127.  Space is sometimes limited, and we don’t want you to miss out. All paid programs must be paid for at the time you reserve the spot.

Assistance

There should never be any barriers to your being able to attend center events. Our facility complies with ADA requirements, and we can help you with transportation if needed through our Shelby Go service. Contact us if you have questions.

*February 9th, 16th and 23rd by appointment only – Tech Savvy Seniors - By Appointment from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. We will be taking appointments for you to learn your technology with one-on-one, 30-minute sessions. Make your appointment, tell us what you want to learn on your device, and bring your technology fully charged and ready to work on during your session. 

Tuesdays and Fridays in February at 1:00 p.m.  Euchre Join us on Tuesday and Friday afternoons for Euchre. We have tables of 4 players and after each round – the winning pair gets to move to the next table. There are 8 games and the scorecards get put into a basket for a monthly gift card drawing. The more you play the more chances you have to be the lucky winner. We play for fun – not for competition.

Wednesdays in February at 9:15 am. Bible Study Join us each Wednesday for our non-denominational Bible Study with Jim Martin. We have a great group of people who meet here to come together for fellowship and faith. Join us for prayer, bible readings, reflection, discussion, and fun. We would love to have you join our group. 

*Monday, February 2nd at 9:00 a.m. Ground Hog Day Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast sponsored by Ashford Place Please sign up so that they know how many people to prepare for breakfast. This is a FREE Breakfast brought to you by Ashford Place Health Campus. Dress in your favorite Ground Hog attire and let’s see if Spring is on its way. Will he see his shadow, or not? 

*Monday, February 2nd at 1:00 p.m. –Dance and Karaoke with DJ Moxy We will be having a Valentine’s Day Party with DJ Moxy. Join us for music, dance, singing, and friendship. Bring a light refreshment to share. Put on those dancing shoes, practice your favorite song, and come on out for an afternoon of fun. Feel free to dress up in the Big Bang Era or in Valentine red or pink colors. 

Tuesdays in February at 10:00 a.m. Caffeinated and Connected We will play a different game or have a different discussion topic each week. The 10th is Valentine’s Day and the 17th is Mardi Gras fun. We hope to see you!

*Thursdays in February at 10:15 a.m. Cardio Drumming This program is designed to help you alleviate stress, increase cognition, and strengthen your arms and core. This program is being paid for with a grant from the Blue River Community Foundation. Our instructor will be Dakota Nicely, and he is a trained instructor. There is only room for 10 people in the class. Class runs each week in February for 4 weeks. Sign-up today! 

*Thursday, February 5th at 1:00 p.m. Scrabble Tournament We are going to have a Scrabble Tournament at 1:00 p.m. Please sign-up to see how many boards we will need. There is no cost to attend, but there will be a prize for the person that scores the most points overall. 

Friday, February 6th at 9:00 a.m. Fun Friday – Football Day Wear your teams favorite Jersey. If you have a favorite team in the Super Bowl – wear your merchandise to support your favorite team. Our Bingo prize table is going to be sponsored by the Willows of Shelbyville. Come join the fun.

*Monday, February 9th at 1:00 p.m. Buck Rogers Jr.  and the Louisiana Muddy Boys Come on out and listen to the sounds of Mardi Grad with Buck Rogers Junior and the Louisiana Muddy Boys. Please sign-up at the front desk so that we can plan accordingly.  There is no charge and no limit to the amount of people we can host. This is a chance for you to enjoy some FREE music and get into the Mardi Gras spirit.

*Wednesday, February 11th at 11:30 am Lunch and Learn – Emergency Preparedness with the Shelby County Health Department Cost $5 This is a Lunch and Learn based around Emergency Preparedness with the Shelby County Health Department. Lunch will be soup and sandwiches. There will be items for you to take home that would come in handy in case of an emergency. Cost is $5 and is limited to 25 people. 

*Thursday, February 12th at 9:00 a.m. Coffee with The Mayor Scott Furgeson will be here to enjoy a cup of coffee and chat. He wants to hear from our 60-and over senior community. This is a great chance to have  an open forum discussion with the Mayor directly.  Call to reserve your spot and Day Passes are available.  Please come out and bring your questions. 

Thursday, February 12th at 1:00 p.m. Book Club at the Horizon Center in the Meeting Room with Pam Weakley from the library. This month we will be discussing a great book called “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith. Everyone is to meet in the Meeting Room. All center members are welcome.  Feel free to stay for the movie following book club.

Thursday, February 12th at 1:30 p.m. Movie Matinee “An Affair To Remember” and Popcorn We are going to be showing the movie “An Affair To Remember.”  Come and enjoy a movie and some popcorn. The movie is 1 hour and 55 minutes long. 

*Friday, February 13th at 9:00 a.m. Fun Friday Valentine’s Gift Exchange and February Birthdays We are going to be drawing names on January 30th and February 5th for our Valentine’s Day Gift Exchange. On February 13th we will be exchanging gifts promptly at 9:00 a.m. Wear pink, red or anything with hearts on it for Fun Friday. Our prize table sponsor is Ashford Place. Birthday cupcakes sponsored by Lois Antley. Come play Bingo, exchange gifts, and have cupcakes for the February birthday gang. 

*Monday, February 16th at 11:30 a.m. Salad Lunch Pitch-In We are going to have a Salad Lunch Pitch-In.  There is no cost to participate. Just bring you favorite salad to share. Think potato, ham salad, chicken salad, pasta salad. When you sign-up let us know what you are bringing so that we can have a good variety.  

*Monday, February 16th at 1:30 p.m. Crockpot Class Sign-Up to be a part of the Crockpot Class for February. There is room for 15 people. Meal items will be provided for the first 15 participants to take home. 

*Wednesday, February 18th at 10:30 a.m. Day Trip to Rustic Root Tea Room and Garfield Park Conservatory Cost $10 We are going to visit the Rustic Root Tea Room and the Garfield Park Conservatory. Cost is $10, and there is room for 14 people. Cost of lunch and shopping is at your expense. 

*Thursday, February 19th at 3:00 p.m. Music and a Meal – Tom Brown Cost is $7 We are going be welcoming Tom Brown to our center. Music at 3:00 p.m. and Meal at 4:00 p.m. The meal will be pork loin, mashed potatoes and gravy, grilled vegetables, rolls with butter, brownies for dessert, and a drink. The meal is limited to 40 people, so sign up early. Cost is $7 per person for members. 

Friday, February 20th at 9:00 a.m. – Fun Friday – Seniors Behaving Badly Day We are going to celebrate this Fun Friday with a twist. We are celebrating Seniors Behaving Badly. Everyone expects you to play by the rules – just because you know better. Well today – all bets are off. Wear whatever you want to express your inner self. Prize table sponsored by Kara Zagar and Morristown Manor.  There will be twice the fun. No rules, just right!

*Monday, February 23rd at 11:00 a.m. Lunch at Cadillac Jacks Cost of the lunch is at your expense. Everyone is to meet there. Lunch and Trivia for everyone to enjoy. Sign-up at the front desk.

*Wednesday, February 25th at 2:00 Chair Volleyball It is cold outside, but it is hot in here! We are going to be playing Chair Volleyball. This is always a fun afternoon. Come practice for our Chair Volleyball Tournament. You might even get to play against your favorite staff member. 

*Thursday, February 26th at 1:00 p.m. St. Patrick’s Day Craft with Erica – FREE Craft We are going to get ready for St. Patrick’s Day by having a fun craft with Erica from Millers Merry Manor. This is always a good time. There is room for 10 people, and there is No Cost to participate. 

Friday, February 27th at 9:30 a.m. Fun Friday, Scarf Day We will be wearing our favorite scarves today. They can be short and tie around your neck or be long and hang down your shoulders. Dress in your favorite scarf for the day. Our Bingo sponsor is Compass Park.

*Saturday, April 11th, 2026 at 4:30 p.m. Elvis at the Strand, Cost is $45 We will meet at the center at 4:30 p.m. and board the bus. We will travel to dinner at Cracker Barrel. Then we will head to the Strand Theatre to see Elvis. Tickets are $45 each, and there is room for 15 people to ride the bus. Inquire with Crystala Evans, Activity Coordinator as to availability.
