KIM’S KORNER
December 2023
Merry Christmas! As I sit here and think about what that means to me, I am reminded of years gone by. I remember my family and friends gathering, whether it be at my house, my grandmother’s house, or even my great aunt’s house and all of the fun times, family, songs and skits. My family is large and we have an even larger extended family. My family comes home from all over the states to celebrate our time together. I have many fond memories and it is always great to see everyone. We eat too much – but it is always great to see everyone.
Even though Christmas is a wonderful time of year for my family, I try to remember that not everyone looks at the holidays the way I do. There are many different reasons that this could be true. For many of our seniors, it is a time of being alone and with no where to go and no one to be with. Many families have moved away and are very busy with their own lives and don’t make it “home” for the holidays. December it is usually cold and snowy which then can make it hard for seniors to get out of their homes. Please try to remember your neighbors, family, and friends that are home alone this holiday season. Try to take a few minutes out of your busy schedule to check in on them and spread your holiday cheer with someone who may not have any.
The staff at Shelby Senior Services wants to wish you a Merry Christmas!
