SHELBY GO
By Mary Billings,
Transportation Director

Clients who ride ShelbyGo’s LOOP are reminded that the end of
the LOOP day at 3 p.m. is an unload only at the downtown circle
stop, however, if you choose to continue transportation one-way
beyond the 3 p.m. LOOP ending time, there will be an additional
charge of $3, since that would be considered a scheduled trip.
Also, for those unable to use the steps to board
ShelbyGo: let the dispatcher know that
when you call in your appointment. She will let the driver know
upon pickup. The drivers will accommodate you by using the
wheelchair lift. Just stand still, hold the railing, and the
lift will bring you right to the floor of the van for boarding.
To schedule rides or for additional
information, call ShelbyGo, 398-7416. Informational brochures
are available upon request.

SHELBY GO
Thank you to our passengers who call
in to schedule rides as soon as they receive appointments from
doctors, hairdressers or others. That is the best way to insure
you will have a ride. After all, ShelbyGo is not a taxi service
and is not available at a moment’s notice.
If you use a wheelchair,
don’t be offended if we ask you the combined weight of the chair
and yourself. ShelbyGo operates under regulations set by public
transportation, Indiana Department of Transportation, and there
are weight limitations and specified size dimensions. Thank you
for assisting ShelbyGo personnel in this matter.
To schedule transportation, call 398-7614,
The Loop van is available on an hourly basis, too, at posted
locations through the city of Shelbyville.
As always, it is our pleasure to
serve you. Thank you for your patronage.
Reminder : When riding on ShelbyGo you must have correct
change ready. Locked money boxes are available for your
donations and ShelbyGo and LOOP fares. Drivers cannot make
change.
The ShelbyGo Loop operates inside city limits Mondays-Fridays
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Riders wait at bus stops for pickups and
returns. Other rides may be scheduled by calling 398-7614.
Transportation services are provided without regard to race,
gender, color, national origin, ancestry, disability or age.
Unable to use the steps to board ShelbyGo?
Just let the dispatcher know when you call in your
appointment or let the driver know upon pickup. The drivers will
accommodate you by using the wheelchair lift. Just stand still,
hold the railing and the lift will bring you right to the floor
of the van for boarding. The driver will also go up on the lift
with you for stability. Just ask them to do that.
Reminder: Call in advance to schedule transportation at
398-7614. It increases the likelihood of obtaining that ride.
Calling in at the last minute or on the same day you need
transportation will likely leave you without a ride.
DAV
Van Is Operating
The DAV van is
available again to take veterans to and from appointments at the
VA Hospital in Indianapolis. Service has been refined and
appointments for to-your-door-pickup may be made at least one
week in advance of appointments by calling Max Wean, volunteer
coordinator, either toll-free at 1-877-920-7433, (317) 498-0773
or locally, 765-763-8752. The van operates Mondays-Fridays from
the Morristown American Legion. To better serve riders, Wean
suggests riders schedule morning appointments at the VA if
possible.
ShelbyGo Transportation
How does
ShelbyGo, the public transportation system in Shelby County,
differ from the traditional taxi service?

Shelby County, including the city
of Shelbyville, does not have a taxi service.
Shelby County and Shelbyville has
ShelbyGo.
Mary Billings, director of
ShelbyGo transportation, is available at 398-0127 to answer
your questions and address your concerns. Be sure to stop by the
offices of Shelby Senior Services, Inc., 1504 S. Harrison St.,
Shelbyville, and pickup our new ShelbyGo brochure later
this month.
Thanks to all riders for donations
that help keep the vans on the road and for being courteous to
drivers and fellow passengers. Your patience and kindness are
truly appreciated.
Door-to-door van
transportation is provided to get you to and from work medical
appointments, hair salons, shopping, restaurants, and visits to
friends.
If you ride from a
bus-stop sign location, the fee is just $1 each time you board
if you are younger than 60 years of age. Riders 60 and older
make a donation. The fee for to-your-door pickup is $3 for a
roundtrip for riders younger than 60 years of age with the
suggested donation being $3 for those 60 and older, too. To
schedule a to-your-door pickup ride, call 398-7614. The vans
run Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and are wheelchair
accessible.
For your
protection and that of the drivers, ShelbyGo follows
these guidelines:
Riders must be able to get from their houses to the vehicle.
Riders must be ready at their appointed time.
Only standard sized wheelchairs can be transported.
Drivers are not permitted to physically transfer a rider into a
wheelchair.
The
ability to provide service will be
re-evaluated if unsafe conditions arise
for
passenger or driver.

information, contact either Mary Billings, transportation
